PD Planning With Partners
To assist Aupuni Palapala (AP) partners in setting up and organizing their PD experience, AP has created this easy to use form to submit important information and documents.
Major pieces of PD planning for partners are separated by stages.
Preparation Stage
In the preparation stage, our goal is to brainstorm ideas, plan a possible event, submit necessary documents that apply, and fill out information on the PD Event.
Proposal Information
Collaborative Planning
This form will be filled out with an Aupuni Palapala Faculty and/or staff member.
Information and Resource Submissions
Once your PD information has been submitted, please email opualii@hawaii.edu any attachments, photos, and links needed to help advertise this event.
Photos of speakers - Used in advertisements and webpage
Downloadable content and/or links- Used on the webpage and serves as an interactive way for our participants to gather information on your PD.
Files (brochures, advertisements, reports, handouts, etc) + small explanation(s) of what participants might want from the file(s).
Links to other sites + small explanation of what participants might want there.
Execution Stage
The execution stage is when we are “live” and delivering information, resources, frameworks, templates, etc. to other teachers. So far, we should have a plan, prepared the deliverable materials, and sent out most of the advertisements to our audience. You can feel good that we have successfully communicated to our audience and given them ample time to find access to your event. The following is expectations on what is needed for a smooth experience. If you have any questions, please contact Aupuni Palapala so we can better accommodate your needs.
Expectations for Day-of-Event
In the execution of the event we expect all partners to provide the following
An agenda so our audience will see how time is used
Slides to share (a common request in PD events)
We recommend creating a presentation slide deck, then making another version that you feel comfortable sharing with teachers. Determine how you would like them to use this information. Is it for personal use? Is it specialized information and easily taken out of context? Give your information/resource a purpose.
A section in your presentation on making the information relevant at the classroom level. This serves as an explicit explanation of how you want to see your information used in the classroom. One recommendation is to also provide time for a breakout (5-10 minute) breakout room discussion/reflection on this topic.
A section in your presentation sharing a piece of your personal moʻolelo.
Post PD Event
The post PD time is just as important as the planning and executing of PD. In this space, we take a strengths-based approach with future talk through reflecting and identifying the strengths of your PD as well as changes you would make for future PD you want to put on (whether or not there is a space created for it yet). We want to support educators in developing their sense of who they are as creators in their spaces so they may support other educators in their practice. This is a daunting process for some, but with more practice in developing Hawaiʻi-based PD, any educator can feel empowered to help ground other spaces in Hawaiian wisdom.
We can help you in creating a certificate of attendance for your session. Here is an example with access to a template on a free online program.
Post PD Reflection
Aupuni Palapala will set up a Post PD reflection meeting. It will be a 40 minute meeting where we will go over things that went well, things that added to your personal professional development, and ideas for future opportunities. The last 10 minutes of the meeting will be saved for you to fill this form out.
