About Our Speaker
Summer Maunakea is a passionate educator with experience in breaking down the walls of the classroom to support intergenerational & community-based learning. Summer’s pedagogical focus centers ʻāina as teacher. She currently serves as an assistant professor of Native Hawaiian and Indigenous Education and Leadership at UH Mānoa College of Education. She also consults community organizations and the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education on the integration of ʻāina-based learning in their educational spaces. In E Moʻolelo Kākou, she will engage easy-to-apply lessons along with her fellow kumu in Hawaiʻi schools that can be done with students and their ʻohana.

Candace Fujikane is a professor of English at the University of Hawaiʻi. She has recently published her book Mapping Abundance for a Planetary Future: Kanaka Maoli and Critical Settler Cartographies in Hawaiʻi (2021). She stands with Aloha ʻĀina to protect lands and waters in Hawaiʻi.
